Reiki is a healing therapy, channelling universal energy to help balance the mind, body and spirit.
It evolved in Japan from ancient teachings. The original and traditional Reiki is Usui. However today there are many forms of ‘Reiki’ including Sekhem, (Egyptian Reiki) Angelic Reiki and Karuna Reiki. They have different names & different symbols, however they all use the same basic premise of channelling universal energy for the good of the client/patient.
Universal energy is present in all living things: the earth around you, plants, trees and animals, your family and every other person you see or meet. Reiki healing can be beneficially used for a wide range of issues, from stress reduction and relaxation to back problems to emotional traumas.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
What are the benefits of Reiki Healing?
Reiki is suitable for everyone, including children, the elderly and pregnant mothers. It is good for relaxation and can give your body a boost even if you are in good health, like recharging your batteries!
Reiki can relieve aches and pains, illnesses and disease in your body. It can be used to help reduce stress and balance emotions.
What happens in a Reiki healing?
You will be asked to take your shoes off and lie on a treatment couch, you will probably have a blanket placed over you. I’ll make sure that you are comfortable and put some soothing background music on. We may also light candles or burn aromatherapy oils.
All you need to do is close your eyes and relax!
I will place my hands either on or above the body and channel healing energy into the areas needing attention.
Some people experience a range of different sensations during the session. These can include feelings of hot, cold, tingly, seeing colours during the treatment, many people relax so deeply they fall asleep. These are all totally normal and natural responses to a Reiki Healing.
What techniques do you use?
I am a Usui Reiki Master, and this is the system I would generally use, however I am also a Sekhem Reiki Healing practitioner, so this system is also available.
