EFT, Tapping, Emotional Freedom Technique FAQ
What is EFT Tapping?
It is a type of energy psychology therapy where you can release emotional tension through tapping acupuncture points on your face and upper body. EFT is based on the discovery that imbalances in the body's energy system have profound effects on both physiology and psychology. Correcting these imbalances is done by tapping on meridian points, whilst focusing or being tuned into the issue to be resolved.
How does it work?
It works to clear these disruptions and eliminate or reduce the resulting emotional response thereby restoring your equilibrium and offering relief from physical discomfort.
This is done by focusing on the specific problem whilst tapping on the end points of energy meridians. The combination of tapping the energy system, whilst uncovering and focusing on root causes, facilitates the brain to release calming chemicals which in turn facilitates a "straightening out" of the energy system. This effectively eliminates the "short circuit" or body's learnt response/ negative emotion.
Why would I choose this form of therapy?
- It's a positive, proactive experience
- It usually achieves rapid , long lasting relief from symptoms
- Once you are confident with the process it can be used independently, anywhere, so you have a self help tool on tap!
- No Equipment or special environment required
- Often works where nothing else seems to
Can I just do tapping myself or do I need a therapist?
As in all therapeutic situations, it is extremely helpful to work with a qualified professional who can focus objectively on your situation. A qualified therapist or practitioner will be able to help you navigate through any problems and situations and arrive at core issues that once dealt with, will facilitate fast progress.
Sometimes we will not take ourselves in to areas which feel uncomfortable and a therapist will provide the safe environment for this to take place. Sometimes the deeper or core issue is unconscious and we need that bit of help to get there.
Personally I use all my training as a background to enhance the therapeutic gain. I also believe that it’s imperative that you feel comfortable with your therapist as you will be working in a partnership with them to achieve your desired outcome.
Once you’ve worked through your core issues I fully recommend using the process on yourself for any new issues that may come up in the future, or as a top up if required. This is one of the brilliant things about this form of therapy, that you can use it yourself as a self help tool whenever you need it, wherever you are.
Do I have to believe in it for it to work?
Not necessarily, it can work whether you believe in it or not. Most people find that as they start getting results they start to believe in the process even if they didn’t in the beginning. If you're feeling better you just know it works, even if you don't know how!
Is it Safe?
Yes it is a gentle process and is believed to be completely safe, there are no known negative side effects. However there is one point that is used by some practitioners (the ankle point) which is not advised when pregnant.
Do I have to see an EFT therapist in person for it to work well?
No I help many people online over skype or zoom and also over the phone. This can be especially helpful for people with severe anxiety, phobias or who have panic attacks when leaving the house but want the reassurance of working with a qualified EFT Tapping therapist.
